UNDP ABADEI CKE Project – Bakery

With support from UNDP Afghanistan, the Green Kandahar Rehabilitation Organization (GKRO) is implementing the Community Kitchen Empowerment (CKE) Project under the ABADEI Programme in Kandahar city and Shawalikot district.

This project aims to enhance livelihood opportunities and food security for vulnerable households by establishing 15 community bakeries managed by local men and women, including widows. Each bakery provides fresh bread daily to 375 vulnerable families while creating income-generating opportunities for the bakers.

The project also promotes community engagement, PSEA awareness, and environmental and social safeguards to ensure inclusive, safe, and sustainable operations. Through this initiative, GKRO and UNDP are helping communities in southern Afghanistan rebuild resilience, dignity, and self-reliance.
